Book Review of 2016 New Novel Saris and a Single Malt by Sweta Srivastava Vikram

Sara is a sigle Malt book cover

Have you ever wished you could be there for family or friends when a loved one dies?  You will be amazed at the strength of this author as she endures the loss of her mother while on an airplane.  She senses her mom’s death and breathe words in poems of her feelings.  Her heart felt words are very thought-provoking.  I felt like I was with her as she write beautifully scripted poems concerning the death of her mother.  Even worse is how she felt her mom die and she was not there for her.  Grief has a way of changing us.  My advice is to not let your grief be still, share it with others.  I was raised to never talk about the death of my real mother.  I had to find out bits and pieces on my own when I was ready to hear of her death.  A quote from the book: “What is loss, I ask, my eyes pleading for respite.  I am a poet, a writer; how can I not know words?  I forget that I am a daughter, made of flesh and bone, not just a storyteller sharing metaphors of what others have lost.”  I was gifted this book for an unbiased review.  © 2016 Jackie Paulson
